UI principles to be applied to your design

For my design, I am going to utilise Jakob’s Law which states ‘Users spend most of their time on other sites. This means that users prefer your site to work the same way as all the other sites they already know.’ Users will transfer expectations they have built around one familiar product to another that appears similar. By leveraging existing mental models, we can create amazing user experiences in which the users can focus on their tasks rather than on learning new types of models. When making changes, minimize discord by empowering users to continue using a familiar version for a limited time (lawsofux, 2024). People enjoy something that is familiar and similar to us as it’s simpler to use more efficient, and always makes us feel safer. An example of this is the checkout section when purchasing the ticket/s, if anything is out the ordinary or slightly different, people may think the website, app and festival is something such as a scam. Therefore I intend to make the website similar to others. This ties in with Hick’s Law, or the Hick-Hyman Law, which states that ‘the more stimuli (or choices) users face, the longer it will take them to make a decision.’ This means it’s important to offer the most useful set of options to avoid confusion with the user and can be vital for safety (interaction-design, 2016). This will help all types of people to feel comfortable using the website and app, despite their age, computer skills, etc and encourage them to buy tickets due to being so accessible. Moreover, there will certainly be a section on the sponsors of the festival, as I think it’s important to dedicate a whole section to them. For the audience stakeholders, there will be accessibility options for example for those with colour blindness or dyslexia. Furthermore, I will use usability goals by keeping a consistent theme of using noticeable and simplistic fonts. This is an example of efficiency. I will also have a consistent colour palette and include a substantial amount of images.
