Overview of some Design & Research:

This is my design and research page for the development of my application. When tasked with designing a companion app for the T.V. series ‘DishMatch’, I felt very inspired to create something flavourful and practical, as I had creative freedom. To summarise DishMatch, it’s a series that creates dishes to fit individual peoples needs and wants. I was pleased to be approached by a T.V. series as this is the type of content I love to consume due to their variety, flexibility & cultural impact. Moreover, I decided I wanted to focus the app on their theme of recipes to match the theme of the series, as I recognise working out and deciding what to eat all the time can be difficult and frustrating. My intended audience is adults and young adults, so I believe this idea is fitting for the target audience. To start this, I needed to conduct some research, so I did some competitor research and mood boards, including other T.V. apps, to gain more knowledge on them as a whole. It was interesting to look at the different layouts, use of negative space, colour schemes etc. On the topic of colour, I gathered some colour inspiration and created a colour palette. I wanted this to be fairly minimalistic so the app contained its core colours. Light greens and blues don’t scream excitement and fun, for example I don’t think this colour palette would be fitting for a food festival, however I think for food and recipes at home it provides a calming tone. The mission statement for DishMatch is ‘DishMatch’s mission is to help you discover how to eat better – bringing to you personalised, delicious recipes that match your tastes, dietary needs, and lifestyle – so cooking at home is now simple, satisfying, and stress-free.’ Mission statements ‘help employees remain focused on the tasks at hand and they encourage them to find innovative ways of moving toward increasing their productivity with the eye to achieving company goals.’ (investopedia, 2025). They are a crucial and integral part of the design process.
