This is my first conceptually designed personal logo. I decided I wanted to create something where I could alter the letters in my name. I thought about continuing the idea of nature and its appeal to me, so I started by typing my name in different fonts to give me ideas on what to do. I noticed whilst using this serif font that some of the letters in my name appeared really elongated. Therefore, I decided to elongate these words even further by creating branches and leaves using the pen tool. This really switches the formal context of the serif font and creates a much more rustic, stylised response. Despite the text becoming altered, it’s still completely clear to understand and doesn’t cluster the composition. For the use of colour, I didn’t want to limit myself to just the colours of what I was illustrating, so I thought I’d use some completely opposite colours, red and purple, which I felt it gave the design a bold and unique feel. However, I did decide to create the background blue to imitate the sky. Ultimately, I think this design creates an individual, quirky idea that reflects me by defining and visualising nature.
For my second conceptually designed personal logo, I thought I would try exploring numbers. I noticed in capital letters that the ‘E’ and ‘A’s’ in my name looked like a ‘3’ and ‘4’, so I tried switching the letters out for numbers. Instead of typing two 4’s, I placed my second name vertically through my first name to intercept, meaning that the 4 is used for my first and last name. I think this creates an interesting and eye-catching composition. The number 34, which my name has created, is an angel number which means good luck for stability for your career and finances, which is fitting for my audience which is potential graphic design employers (Figure 1). In addition, I decided to use a serif font for this design, as I believe a sans-serif font would’ve looked too formal with the use of numbers. Moreover, I decided to use different tones of pink/purple for this design to highlight my ‘girly’ personality. I also added a drop shadow on the text to allow it to stand out. I also decided to create a border, in the same shade as the type, to add further structure to the design. Overall, I believe this design looks like a creative and unique variation of my own name.
